Flashback to Film-First Roll Shot in 6 years

So, my friend and fellow photographer Heather Ahrens does this thing she calls “Film Friday”. Basically, she tries to shoot a roll of film once a week and posts them on her blog. She challenged her other photographer friends to join her and I’ve taken up the challenge. I’m so glad I did!

Today I found my old film camera buried in the back of my storage unit. It’s just a little Nikon N65 and very different from my Canon pro digital gear. I bought one roll of film- 24 exposures of just plain old Kodak 400 right off the supermarket shelves and headed for the nature preserve by my house.

It took me 45 minutes to shoot 24 frames! I had to carefully compose each and every shot to really make them count. All the images were shot in Manual mode. It was so hard not to be able to see the images instantly on the back of my camera! But, I enjoyed reconnecting with this old friend, my film camera and plan to join Heather in “Film Friday” and shoot a roll a week. I may even bring it to some weddings or portrait sessions just for fun!

After the shoot, I was so excited to see the images, I headed straight to the drugstore and waited the half hour while they processed the film. It’s so cool that they can now go straight from negatives to digital files! Love it!

So, here are a few of my favorites. No processing, no Photoshop. No nothing. I’m loving the vintage look and soft, milky tones of the film. Very retro, don’t you think?

Bridal Boudoir Portraits

Are you a bride searching for the perfect gift to give your groom for your wedding? Consider a bridal boudoir portrait. Imagine his surprise as you present him with stunning images of you that are romantic and sexy. The portraits could be presented just before you kiss him goodnight on the eve of your wedding day or even just hours before you walk down the aisle! I’m sure he’d love these images much more than a pocket watch or cufflinks ;)

Jax Shoot Club-Shoot Out

Last night I attended the first meeting of the Jax Shoot Club and had a blast! Basically, 20-30 photographers got together downtown with models, a make-up artist and their gear to experiment with new techniques and push ourselves in our art creatively. We broke into small groups and took turns photographing the models in our style. But, it was really great to learn off each other and try things that we maybe haven’t done before. It was a blast to get hours with a bride with no time limits and constraints that come with a wedding day. So, here are a few of my images. Hope you love them!

Epping Forest Wedding-Ryan and Josh

On Saturday, Ryan and Josh were blessed with a beautiful wedding and reception at Epping Forest Yacht Club. The rain held off just long enough for the ceremony that Ryan and Josh had hoped for outside. What luck! Congratulations and Best Wishes!
