Amanda and Pete’s Wedding

I first met Amanda about a year ago through Beaches Habitat for Humanity. They were developing a new brochure and wanted photographs of some of the families that had worked to receive homes. I jumped at the chance to be of service to them and highlight their awesome work! (One image can be seen on their website homepage.)

I worked on a few other projects with them and got to know some of the staff members including Amanda who is the Education Director. I was honored when Amanda asked me to photograph her and Pete’s wedding. The ceremony was held at Beaches Chapel and the reception was at Dolphin Plaza in Hanna Park. Everything was so gorgeous! The church is cozy and intimate and the beach reception was beautifully decorated in bright colors. What a joy!

New Meeting Space/Showroom

It took me two years, but I’ve finally done it! This week I set-up a meeting room/showroom seperate from my office. I’m still putting the finishing touches on it and am waiting for a few large canvas prints to come in, but I think you’ll get the idea. I LOVE it! Now I don’t have to keep my office so neat all the time :) Plus, it will be much nicer for clients and guests than meeting in my office.

The loveseat and pillows are a comfy microfiber and the two end chairs are a yummy chocolate leather. Tables are an Indian-inspired dark hammered wood. Blue candles and accessories to continue with my business theme and color.

I spend lots of time just sitting and enjoying the space now! Great place for a coffee break!

“Lady in the Water” Trash the Dress Image Wins First Place in People’s Choice

Last night at the Professional Photographer’s Society of North Florida (PPSNF) monthly meeting, “Lady in the Water”, an image created by me in a Trash the Dress style photo shoot, was awarded First Place in the People’s Choice print competition. People’s Choice is a photography print competition for the guild members. Members anonymously submit their best prints for judging by the guild. I was awarded a blue ribbon and recognition from my peers. The image will also appear on the PPSNF homepage. Thanks again to Jennifer Tucker, the bride pictured, for your willing spirit to go with my crazy idea! It paid off!

October is National Family Portrait Month- Benefit Operation Smile!

PPA

Each year, Professional Photographers of America (PPA) Charities sponsors National Family Portrait month in October as a fundraising effort to benefit Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a not-for-profit group of doctors, nurses and support staff that provide free surgeries to children born with cleft palates, cleft lips and other facial deformities. More than 100,000 children are born each year with one of these problems.

Photographers that participate in Family Portrait Month donate $25 from each family portrait session to Operation Smile. When families participate in Operation Smile, they are directly helping children “get their smile back.”

October is the perfect month for this project since the holidays are just around the corner and family portraits make great gifts!

Photography by Jennifer Brum, Inc. is one of only a dozen studios in Florida currently committed to participate in Operation Smile.

To schedule your family session, please contact Jennifer Brum directly at (904) 382-7255 or by email at jenniferbrum@comcast.net.

Thank you in advance!

Mmmmm…cake!

This little cutie pie is Sara and she just turned two! I first met her when she was an itty bitty newborn and photographed her a few times before she and her mom and dad moved from Jax. Recently the family was back in town and we scheduled a photo shoot to celebrate her birthday. This was the first time I’ve had a little one eat birthday cake! Happy Birthday Sara!

Operation Backpack-Labor Day Weekend at Kmart

As many of my family, friends and clients know, I am an active member of the Junior League of Jacksonville. Junior League is an organization of women committed to improving the community through service and volunteerism. The Jacksonville guild is amazing! This is not a group that sits around in their pearls drinking tea and gossiping. (Well…sometimes we wear jeans, drink wine and talk about girl stuff.)

This group is making a difference through hard work! This year I am on the Fostering Cares Committee which is mainly responsible for coordinating Junior League’s involvement in Operation Backpack. This year, Operation Backpack is a community drive between First Coast News, Junior League and Kmart and other community businesses and sponsors including AmerTac which recently donated 2,500 nightlights to our cause!

If you are not familiar with Operation Backpack, it is held Labor Day weekend September 1 at area Kmart stores. First Coast News publicizes the event, Junior League volunteers staff it, and Kmart hosts it. Community members are encouraged to donate gently used and new backpacks. Junior League volunteers fill the backpacks with personal items, books and toys for area foster children that are suddenly removed from their homes with little to nothing. The backpacks provide a small amount of comfort and care to the kids during a scary time.

Please stop by an area Kmart Labor Day weekend and donate a backpack (or 2 or 3) to Operation Backpack. I will be heading up the Neptune Beach site if you’d like to stop by and say hi. I’ll be right out front with other Junior League volunteers. If you’ll be out of town that weekend I can accept backpack donations from clients, family & friends. I’ll be sure to take lots of pics that weekend, so check back in September for an update. Thanks for supporting Operation Backpack!

Family Marks New Life Stage with Beach Portrait

I love to hear the stories behind my client’s family portraits. Most of the time the reason is to celebrate a new stage in their life like a new baby or child’s first steps. Diane and her family wanted to commission a portrait to mark a different type of milestone. Diane and George’s son, George, Jr. is leaving for college this summer. His little sister Emily will still be at home with mom and dad, but this marks a huge life change for them. The family portraits at the beach will forever be reminders of their love for each other and can be passed down as heirlooms for generations to come. Best wishes and thank you for sharing your story with me!

Alexia (my niece) at Four

What an exciting time! Lexy is four and starts pre-school this month. So, I invited her to stay the weekend with me. We’re going to MyGym, Ollie Koala’s and to the movies. But, first we had to do her annual photo shoot. She will make a fantastic photographer one day as she loves taking pictures and setting up backdrops! I was inspired by her cute black and white outfit to do this collage and I love how it turned out.
